Lincoln City Homepage Letters to the editor
Like many of my friends, I have long been concerned about the Republicans’ repeated abandonment of their responsibilities by fleeing the capitol to hide from votes they are afraid of losing.

My argument to the party has always been, “put candidates that will win elections on the ballot and Republicans will get the voice they want in Salem. It’s how Democracy works.”

Dick Anderson, as it happens, is that kind of candidate. We have our differences, but not when it comes to Lincoln City.  I’ve wavered, but ultimately I can’t imagine not supporting Anderson, given his years of dedication to my town.  His devotion to our community – it’s business community, the arts, livability and more – has set the gold standard. He fought for neighborhoods and tackled Vacation Rental Dwellings – long the third rail of local politics.  He kicked another hornets’ nest when leading the effort to annex Roads End. He’s repeatedly taken hits from members of his own party for doing what was right for our community.

His leadership has benefited the community on myriad fronts. If his years on the council and as mayor hasn’t won our support in Salem, I can’t imagine what else it would take.

Thanks for all you have done for all of us, Dick.  See you in the statehouse.

  1. Wrong. The residents of Roads End didn’t make out so well with that. There was a lot of sneaky, underhanded back-door operations going on. Compare Melissa Cribbins’ credentials and sponsors with Dick’s. He has a handful of friends; she has pages of qualified organizations and individuals. She’s well-educated and prominent, as well as young. It’s time we stopped electing old friends to represent us. We need strong leadership, and we need someone who cares about the health and safety of LC more than its economy. The Republican Party has shown it’s true colors, and they’re not pretty. Vote for a responsible candidate with years of true political and legal experience. That person is Melissa Cribbins.

  2. I agree with LC resident. We can’t afford to have Dick at the state level costing us millions of dollars like he did here in LC. Plus no communication during COVID or evacuation. We need someone that will not have special interests costing tax payers 87 million dollars.

  3. Agree with LC resident! Melissa Cribbins better than Dick. Attorney, research scientist, and tribal judge. Melissa was raised on the Oregon Coast too. Affordable healthcare and expanding workers rights and job opportunities are needed now for the Oregon coast. Melissa Cribbins believes this. I believe she will try harder than Dick! Melissa Cribbins is the one who can do it. Also Fran Lonnons comment stated one of my biggest complaints . . . no communication during covid or evacuation. Guess Dick is just a no communication Kinda guy. I don’t want one of those. Melissa Cribbins she’s no Dick!

It would only take sitting through 1 painful city council meeting to know what a joke they are, a bad joke the residents are paying millions for.

  5. Well, maybe I won’t get trolled at this point.
Anderson gets a vote from me by default, Republican.Period.
Find me 2 republicans running for the same thing and I’ll have to make
a decision between 2 persons from the sensible party.
Tell that to the 2 girls who drive by my house once or twice a day and
yell F*** Trump. Republicans don’t act like that, my neighbor is, unfortunately,
deluded, and we don’t hear anyone yelling F*** biden.
