National Weather Service Portland (NWS) issued a “High Wind Warning” Wednesday for the Central Oregon Coast, calling for gusts up to 60 mph starting tonight and lasting until tomorrow.

NWS expects south to southwest winds 30-40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph in Lincoln City, Newport, Yachats and Florence.

The warning is in effect from 11 p.m. Wednesday until 1 p.m. Thursday.

NWS officials said strong winds can knock down weakened trees and scattered power outages are expected. Travel for high-profile vehicles will be difficult. Winds will be strongest on beaches and headlands late tonight and into Thursday morning.

The weather service advises residents to tie down loose objects in their yards and to drive with extreme caution.
