Pedestrian Enforcement Lincoln City

Lincoln City Police will be on the lookout for drivers failing to stop for a decoy pedestrian between SW 5th and 1st streets, from noon-4 p.m. Wednesday, July 21.

“The members of the Lincoln City Police Department are dedicated to enhancing the safety of our citizens and guests of the city,” LCPD Sgt. Jeffrey Winn said. “These safety operations are conducted in an effort to reduce the potential for injuries or death to pedestrians in our city.”

LCPD hopes to educate drivers and pedestrians about right-of-way laws. Warning signs will be posted outside the safety operation zone during the hours of noon-4 p.m. while the decoy pedestrian crosses Highway 101 at crosswalks.

Lincoln City Police utilize grant funds provided by the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon Impact to make safety enforcement operations like this one possible.

During a normal operation it is not uncommon for police to cite or warn 20 drivers in a day.

Police will be focusing on:

ORS 811.028: Failure to stop and remain stopped for pedestrian

ORS 811.020: Passing stopped vehicle at crosswalk

ORS 811.025: Failure to yield to pedestrian on sidewalk

  1. Tourists are special- you have to be really naughty to get in trouble as a visitor.
These decoy events will never happen on a weekend.
In any event, there are enough locals who need some assistance.

  2. I was stopped for a family crossing In a crosswalk and cars kept passing me on the right even though it was one lane didn’t even slow down some of the cars almost hit the family.
