The Lincoln Co. Sheriff’s Office is requesting that Waldport residents or businesses with security video systems, such as the doorstep “Ring” or other recording devices contact law enforcement immediately to help solve the murder early Sunday morning of businessman Mark Campbell.

Campbell, 66, was stabbed to death after interrupting a burglary at a residence on the golf course he owned around 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 6. A longtime Waldport city councilor, Campbell struggled with an unknown intruder after being awakened in his own home adjacent to the crime scene. The occupant of the residence had recently died and the apartment was supposed to be empty at the time.

The crime scene had been “processed” of all evidence as of Tuesday afternoon and sent to the Oregon State Police Crime Lab, according to LCSO spokesman Sgt. Rene Lopez. While investigators continue to follow-up leads, no arrests have been made. Lopez said security video from Dec. 6 could could help close the case.

“We’re looking at every possible lead,” Lopez said, encouraging citizens to step forward by calling Sheriff’s Detective Abigail Dorsey at 541-265-0683.
