Lincoln City Sandcastle Contest at Siletz Bay

Saturday, Aug. 11, Explore Lincoln City and mayoral candidate Susan Wahlke held the Lincoln City Sandcastle Contest at Siletz Bay. Hundreds if not thousands turned out for the event and everyone Homepage talked to said it was amazing.

Bret Lucich was on the microphone for the contest, announcing winners and providing commentary. He threw taffy to kids on the beach from the Taft Dock.

Tourists Terri Richard and Kaley Jones from Spokane, Wa. said “This is awesome! We’re so happy the sun came out.”

The winners are:

Best Mermaid: The Murray Family.

Best Chowder Head: Mineer & Shaffer families.

Best Sea Creature: The McCauleys.

Best Squid: Cliff & Morrise.

Best Traditional: Jessica and Patrick Beesley.

Best Dog: Shawn & Joci.

There were reports from some sandcastle builders that their creations were washed away as the tide came in.
