As if hosting the top-ranked Class 3A football team in the state on Friday isn’t enough, Taft High begins a busy slate of home sports competition Tuesday.
The Taft boys deployed heavy offensive artillery in defeating Sutherlin 9-1 after building a 6-0 halftime lead, but the Bulldogs defeated the Tigers 6-1 in girls play.
Two dozen energetic underclassmen will join a trio of experienced seniors and a pair of talented juniors on Taft High Ryan Ulicni’s first boys soccer head coaching roster before the home crowd Thursday at Voris Field.
Young and able with a spattering of experience in key leadership roles is how Taft High coach Joey Arce-Torres might best describe his new-look Tigers entering the 2018 girls soccer season.
The Tigers will need solid defense throughout if they hope to derail the seventh-seeded Bulldogs, who won the Mountain Valley Conference at 12-2, 11-1.
Taft’s scoring output surpassed last season’s offensive totals, said James, whose third-place Tigers will compete Saturday, Oct. 29, in the District playoffs to determine seeding at State.
